Most children start speaking their first words by around 12 months (1 year) and by 2 years, they should be combining words into simple sentences called " Phrases".
• If the child does not babble during infancy or by their first birthday.
• If the child does not say meaningful words after turning two years old.
• If the child cannot say two-word phrases after turning two and a half years old.
It's normal for young children to have speech sound errors.
However, by age 4, most children can be understood by others
Many children go through a period of stuttering between ages 2 and 5 as they learn to speak. But is not diagnosed as stuttering during this age as its just a part of acquiring speech and language skills... if stuttering persists beyond this age then a consultation from speech language pathologist is required.
Speech problems relate to how sounds are made and how clear someone speaks. Language problems involve difficulty understanding or using words, sentences, or grammar.A speech-language pathologist can help with both types of issues!
